History of Karachi division
Karachi division was created in the year 1960 when Lasbela became a separate district and was placed to form the Karachi-Bela division. Karachi district was then amalgamated into three districts, East, West, and South in 1972. Now two more districts were created in 1996, Central and Malir in the Karachi division.
In 2001, the Karachi Division was eradicated, and five districts were brought together to create City District Karachi. There were 178 union councils and 18 towns making up Karachi’s City District. The Commissioner Karachi Division became the Karachi City District Office.
Sindh government
Sindh government decided to restore five districts of Karachi on July 2011 and in 2013 Korangi was formed as sixth district by splitting district Karachi East.By 2020 Sindh cabinet gave approval and seventh district was formed by splitting district west and named it Kemari District
